BOOK AID (AUSTRALIA)
Vanuatu (Completed July 2015)
A small contribution to the Presbyterian Church of approx 750 kg of books, bibles and other Christian literature following the recent cyclone. We sent an estimated 8 boxes of bibles (mainly NIV & GNB) 8 boxes of appropriate tools for pastors and 10 - 12 boxes of books suitable for retail shops as these
would be distributed through a small retail outlet run by the church in Vanuatu. About two boxes of Bibles were slightly damaged stock given by Koorong. Sincere thanks to Koorong! These
were despatched in mid July 2015 and should have now been
shipped by the Presbyterian Church
In 2014 we received a request from a Bible College in Jos, Northern Nigeria for books. We currently have approximately close to 2000 books in 50 cartons ready for shipping to Nigeria. Normally we would leave consignments to West Africa to other closer geographically located organisations including Book Aid in the UK however this was a specific request to Book Aid in Australia. We are happy to follow up this request with further books to complete a basic resource library for students
Jos was targeted by bombs in December 2014 and Boko Haram have been responsible for attacks on churches in the area.
Sponsorship for shipping 50% Book Aid (Australia) & 50% Local Churches (Australia)
We have at least two requests from the Philippines
2 Zion Bible College (Assemblies of God) in Palo, Leyte, Philippines. One student reports - "a great
storm Haiyan or
Yolanda in November, 2013 ... the school was totally destroyed and also
books. We the students and even our teachers have difficulties searching
sources and reference materials.

In July 2015 we were contacted by Roger & Lyn Kay, CMS
Australia missionaries working in Ethiopia. Roger is pastor of an international
church in Addis Ababa, and Lynn heads up a work with street children.
work of the Anglican Church in Ethiopia is mostly located in the
Gambella region on
the border with South Sudan. They reprort, "We currently have 85
churches in that
region some in refugee camps set up to cater for the
more than 300,000
refugees who have crossed into Ethiopia in the past
year to avoid
the conflict that continues in South Sudan......
have just established a Bible College in Gambella to train pastors and
for these growing churches. Our initial intake is of 20
" .... We
have begun to collect books for the library, and are very grateful to
IVP UK who have give several sets of Tyndale and Bible Speaks Today
Book Aid (Australia) are interested in supporting this work and we would look at sending
an initial shipment of 1000 - 2000 books with a view to supplementing this at
a later date. We would request that a commitment to sponsor
shipping be made by CMS or a third party before we go ahead
and other above commitments be fulfilled before we
go ahead, This could be around November 2015.
Contributions directly to any of the above would be welcomed as also suggestions
and advice on shipping and transport.
